福寿草はキンポウゲ科の多年草、別名ガンジツソウ（元日草）
全国的な分布で山林に生息する。花期は初春。３〜４ｃｍの黄色い花を咲かせる。この花は花弁を使って日光を花の中心に集め、そのため太陽光に応じて開閉する。
